Blurton Snares Pair of Runner-Up Results in Oklahoma and Kansas

Blurton Snares Pair of Runner-Up Results in Oklahoma and Kansas

Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 8, 2017) – Building on the boost of confidence he received following his first win of the season on April 27, Zach Blurton added a pair of runner-up finishes last weekend to give him three consecutive podiums.

Blurton had victory in his sights last Friday at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla., but a pair of lapped cars held him up just enough for Sprint Series of Oklahoma defending champion Andy Shouse to make a last-lap, last-corner pass to steal the win.

“Red Dirt is a smaller track and we have found something with our car that works pretty well,” Blurton said. “We started fifth and got right up to third and settled in. I used the bottom to get around Joe Wood Jr. for second. We had back to back yellows and I used the top to take the lead from Jack Martens. I led over half the race. We were coming to the checkers and two cars that were running dead last bottled me up. I showed them my nose twice and they didn’t move. I guess I have to quit being so nice. I guarantee something like that won’t happen again.”

Blurton, who had advanced from fifth to second in a heat race to put himself within striking distance to start the feature, was credited with a second-place result in the main event following the late pass.

The weekend concluded on Saturday when Blurton traveled to Dodge City Raceway rather than head to Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb.

“It’s like a six-hour drive from home so we decided to go to Dodge City,” he said. “My wife and Kade (Hagans) and I drove all night and stopped at a casino and won some money. It was a lot of fun.”

Upon arriving at Dodge City Raceway Park, Blurton and the team were greeted by a slick, dry track.

“The track was very dry in the heat … it was pretty much follow the leader,” he said. “We started second and finished second, which put us in the redraw for the feature and again we drew the No. 5. And just like Friday I got to third at the drop of the green. The track took rubber around the bottom. The second-place car got into the leader and spun and I was able to avoid it. The longer the green stayed out the faster we got. The leader was struggling with lapped cars and I caught him with two laps to go and was getting ready to make a move after getting the white flag and the caution came out. He had a clear track and stayed in the rubber on the restart and there wasn’t much I could do.

“We had the car to beat all weekend. On Friday, we needed the caution and didn’t get it and on Saturday the yellow came out when I didn’t need it. But we’re really fast right now and getting better each night. I have a lot of confidence and my crew is giving me a great car.”

Blurton will ride that wave of confidence into Eagle Raceway this Saturday.

“I had a top-three car, heck, probably a winning car, the last time we were there,” he said. “The driver made a couple of mistakes and we finished sixth. I’m excited to get back to Eagle.”
