By John Rittenoure (Meeker, OK) -- After months of planning and renovations Red Dirt Raceway will open the gates Friday night for the first points race of the 2017 season.
Sprint Cars, Sport Mods, Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks will make up the opening night program.
Promoter Cody Brewer purchased the speedway (formerly Brill’s Motor Speedway) from Mark Brill and has made many updates to the facility.
Racers will have a larger pit area to work in and a new racing surface that has been shortened from three-eights to one-quarter mile.
Fans will enjoy a brand new grandstand or can choose to watch the races in the Tailgate District located outside of turns 1-2. For $60 you can load up your car or motorhome with as many people as possible and tailgate. You can bring your own food and one ice chest (no larger then 52 qt.).
Concessions with new food choices and cold beer will be available.
Former State Fair Speedway announcer Ben Buckland is scheduled to call the fast paced show which will get underway promptly at 7:30. The evening will be capped with a fireworks display after the nights final feature event.
The weather forecast for opening night predicts 70 degree weather and clear skies. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with grandstands opening at 6. Drivers meeting is 6:15 followed by wheel pack at 6:45 and races at 7:30.
General admission is $10 with kids 10 and under free with paid adult admission.
